When Alexander Williams was born in 1782 in Monroe, Virginia, his father, Jeremiah Williams, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 32.  He married Elizabeth “Lisha” White (maiden name not proven) in 1802 in Montgomery, Virginia. They had six children in order of birth:  Mary Elizabeth “Polly”, John L., Jeremiah, Parker, Jane, and Betsy Ann.

Alexander was mentioned in his father’s will as deceased.  The following was found in records when Eliza, wife, went to court and posted bond as his widow.

At a Court held for the County of Giles on Tuesday the 30th day of July 1816.

On motion of Eliza Williams widow of Alexander Deed who is a resident of Giles county in the State of Virginia it was directed to be certified to the pay master general of the United States that it was Legally proven before this Court by a Respectable witness that about fourteen years ago the said Eliza was Lawfully married by a minister who was lawfully authorized to celebrate the right of matrimony to the said Alexander Williams, dec’d and it was further proven in court by the oath of John Wiliams a Respectable witness that the said Alexander Williams was called into the Service of the United States and marched to Norfolk some time the year of the 1814 and the said Alexander Williams departed this life in the Service of United States on the first day of Jan’ry 1815 at Norfolk in consequence of a disease contracted whilst in the Service of the United States.  It also appeared to this Court on the oath of the said Eliza Williams & other testimony that the said Eliza Williams has six children all of whom is under the age of sixteen years towit Polly Williams Eleven years old 29th Jan’ry last John Williams nine years old the 6th day of Oct last Jeremiah Williams Eight years old 25 day of December Last Parker Williams Six years old 20th Dec Last Jane Williams three years old, the 18th day of Oct Last and Betsy Williams one year old the 23 of March Last and at further appeared to the court that the said Eliza still remains a widow unmarried … The deceased of the said Alexander Williams and that all the Children are living.

Alexander Williams was recogized by the Daughters of the War of 1812 and assigned the Ancestor ID: 25023 Rank: Pvt. Unit: Pension: No Land Bounty: No Service: Militia State Served: VA.  And, so, he died as a young father on January 1, 1815, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 33.
