Elizabeth “Betty” Radabaugh was born about 1800 in Barbour County, Virginia to Adam Radabaugh and Catherine Simon. Her father, Adam Radabaugh died young in Ohio. Her mother, Catherine, returned to Harrison County, Virginia, before 1810 where Elizabeth would have been raised. Both the Simon and Radabaugh families were property owners in that area and would have seen that the family was likely raised.
In the will of Henry Lance, her husband, he has Radabaugh property which indicates an asset of Elizabeth. But as final evidence of her parents, the marriage bond maintained in Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants library gives her mother as Catherine Hall. Elizabeth’s mother did remarry Joseph Hall in 1815, and this document provided evidence that she is the daughter of Adam and Catherine.
In 23 November 1820, Elizabeth married Henry Lance and they had nine children: Adam, Noah, Washington, Barbara, George, Jacob, Benjamin, Isaac, Lafayette, and Marion,
She died on February 27, 1890, in Barbour, West Virginia, at the impressive age of 90, and was buried there in the Lance Cemetery.
